“Tim and I met at work – I was the intern and he was the full time employee…. cliché! Tim surprised me with a weekend away in Paris “for my birthday” and asked me to marry him in our hotel room before we went out that night. I had my suspicions of his motives so checked his luggage for a ring before we left but couldn’t find one so assumed he was telling the truth!
We wanted everything to be in one place and Northbrook Park was so picturesque. We loved the white and gold ceremony room and the fact that the venue is neither modern nor traditional. Also the on-site cottages which housed 80 guests the night of the wedding were a huge bonus in terms of after-party potential.
We chose 3 readings that were special to us and read out by our friends. We also got married under an arch of flowers which I always wanted.
We had a steel band, ‘his and her’ cocktails and also canapés. The cocktails were a little on the strong side so people were well on their way by the time the wedding breakfast started! Our place settings were unique: mini Manchester United football shirts with each guest’s name on the back. And a Harry Potter ‘sorting hat’ inspired table plan. We hired lots of outdoor furniture and games which were a great success (especially as the weather was perfect)”.
