One Whitehall Place Wedding Photographer | Wedding Photography at Westminster Abbey
Is Westminster Abbey THE most magnificent setting for a wedding in the UK. I think it probably is. To say I was a little bit nervous as I walked into the cavernous entrance to photography Sophie & Gareth’s wedding ceremony would be understating what I felt. To be asked to document a wedding at Westminster Abbey is probably the greatest accolade a wedding photographer can have in the UK so I was rather excited as the big day itself dawned.
I met up with Sophie for the morning preparations at The Horseguards Hotel in Whitehall after which we drove on the the Abbey in a fleet of Mercedes, turning heads and feeling like Royalty as the tourists stopped to photograph Sophie’s arrival. The walk from the entrance to the chapel where the ceremony itself takes place is long and seemed to go on forever but finally we were there, the choir in full chorus and Gareth waiting at the end of the aisle. I have to admit my nerves were high at this point, not wanting to make a noise or drop my camera (this is rare these days).
After the ceremony we had photos in the garden at Westminster Abbey and took the short walk over Hungerford Bridge to One Whitehall for the wedding reception. One Whitehall itself is large enough to get lost in and features views of the London Eye and the South Bank and boasts a large veranda of its own and a lovely park nearby for photos. The old library must be one of the finest dining rooms in London and one of the most difficult to photograph in, definitely not one for an enthusiastic friend with a nice camera to have a go at.
